Unit 8 Implementing Contemplative Practice

Hey everyone, I know we are wrapping up this term, which went by so fast! Two practices I would like to continue even after the term is over would be the subtle mind exercise; focusing on my breath, and just simply meditating on being healthy, happy, and whole. The subtle mind exercise will really help me with being mentally fit because it helps me stay in control of my focus. This, of course, would be greatly beneficial for my life on a regular basis. I’ve been practicing the subtle mind exercise at work on my break and after closing hours. I could do another meditation either before bed or when I get up in the morning because both of these times I have to myself.

  1. KatieJane,
I love how you are incorporating the subtle mind exercise into your daily routine. If I learned one thing this term I think that it would have to be that contemplative practices are just like physical exercise...before one can see results, one has to work consistently. I wish you much success in your subtle mind exercises and throughout the rest of your classes at Kaplan.
    Blessings,
    Tennille

  2. I agree that this term did go by really quick. I also like the subtle mind one for the same reason as you that it helped me to focus (even for a little while) and gain some control over my thoughts. This is one that I also would try to continue to do even after the term is over. Relaxing your mind helps to relieve stress and helps you to focus on your health. This class was really informative for me.

  3. Yay! Almost done, we survived another term. Eliminating stress can really make the difference between a good day and bad day. Practicing things that work for us individually is important. Sometimes we can't always go by what the book says. The subtle mind exercise is very beneficial if done correctly and with enthusiasm. For me I could not focus or concentrate. I am glad it worked so well for you. I really believe meditation could be practiced and mastered by just about anyone. Even kids! Learning different breathing techniques or calming techniques is important. Living a healthier, more stress free life is also just as important.

  4. Hi Katie,

I noticed your "about me" post and you got off to a horrible start, but I feel that you are far from the deep end now. You sound a lot more positive and I hope that you have reached some of your goals. I feel that calming the mind has been the most effective part of our studies. I hope that you go on to do great things!
